Hack The Box is an online platform allowing you to test your penetration testing skills and exchange ideas and methodologies with other members of similar interests. It contains several challenges that are constantly updated. Some of them simulating real world scenarios and some of them leaning more towards a CTF style of challenge.
As an individual, you can complete a simple challenge to prove your skills and then create an account, allowing you to connect to our private network (HTB Labs) where several machines await for you to hack them. By hacking machines you get points that help you advance in the Hall of Fame.
Good thing about this site is that you need to hack into the invite code to be able to get in. You’re not able to just register like any other site. So the first step is to actually prove you have da skillz.
A colleague has been showing me the UI and how it works. It looks so fun and has motivated me to crack the invite code. I managed to crack the invite code today, which Im super stoked about. I put a lot of effort into this so I’m pretty proud of myself, even though some people say it was really easy. I guess Web exploitation is not my strongest topic which can definitely be improved in time.
I’ll be working on these active challenges as well as the Vulnhub ones. However, I don’t believe I am allowed to do a write-up on active Hackthebox machines, only retired ones.
Until then, hackers…
